Project Brief

This project involved designing a concert poster for the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of a well known classic. The brief specified that the final poster should be A3 in size and that all illustrated elements needed to be created traditionally, using hand-drawn techniques rather than digital methods. The aim was to produce a visually striking poster that captured the essence of the production while showcasing traditional illustration skills.

Reflection

I chose Beauty & The Beast as my well-known classic because I love its unique characters. I hand-painted a rose, Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumière, and Cogsworth in watercolour on watercolour paper, as these are some of my favorite characters from the story. The illustrations were then refined in Photoshop, arranged into a cohesive layout, and paired with essential poster text, including the venue, dates, and other details. I incorporated yellow to reference Belle’s iconic dress and pink to reflect the rose, which is a central element of the story.
